Google+ Pages are here

November 9, 2011

The results I've seen from people in my stream have been mixed. There are a lot of people talking about it. Some are sharing pages they've made for their company, others are sharing pages they've made for an interest or cause. I've seen a few people claim they will drop their existing "personal" profile in exchange for their Google+ Page, since that's what they are actually here for. The rest of them are "normal" users. Individuals, using a social network to be social with other people.

The breakdown of reactions from this remaining group has also been widely varied. Some are actively collecting all the brand pages they can as if there were a contest, others acknowledge they exist and even circle a few, but otherwise don't make a big deal about them. Then there are those who despise this new feature. I've seen one or two people swear they will uncircle others who begin promoting their pages.

Personally, I've always tried to keep business and personal separated. If you take the time to read about me and know what I do and have a question, of course I will engage but I'm not using my personal profile to actively seek out and market my services. Don't get me wrong, I do believe there is a huge opportunity for businesses to use social media as a way to connect with their customers.

I have created a page for my company. And although there's not much there right now, it does exist. It's not there as a form of advertising, it's sole purpose is to be another medium that new and existing customers can find out information about the company and interact if they prefer. It is linked form the website where clients and visitors interested in my company can find it. If you want to see my company page on Google+, I'm sure you can find the link on your own or just ask me. I'm not going to shove it in everyone's faces. You get enough SPAM in your email, why would I want to drive you away with more unwanted junk?

I'm here to be social with other people and companies of my choosing, to share and discuss my knowledge, thoughts and interests with others in either a public, personal or private manner depending on the situation. I'm not here to advertise.
